Today I thought it time to write this down,
Beyond decoration, humble, in plain rhyme,
As clear as I could, and as truthful, which I have done.
The Moon in Charge
Tonight a gale that scattered ships like grass
Makes twigs twitch. Fields stay flat
Under winds arrived from seas they dug
Keel-deep, made white
Panes in the wheel-house hiss like pansâ¦
The moon, presiding also over green turmoil
Appears to skid and stop, in a gold piazza of
Pigeons sleeping, dreaming of feather-massage:
As a girl, shoving through crowds towards her lover,
Who stands alone in a quiet square,
When she sees him slows,
Stops, remembers, with the strange half-smile of ancient statues.
